Frames:
3 panel mosaic
Panel 1: 94x120 s
Panel 2: 94x120 s
Panel 3: 94x120 s
Location: Peloponnese in Greece
Telescope: RASA 36
Camera: QHYCCD QHY600PH C
Description:
West of Orion extends the large constellation of Eridanus, on the border between two constellations, Rigel, the knee of Orion, illuminates with its cold light a large area of dust and ionized hydrogen that takes the name of the "witch's head" Nebula.
In this image the north is high and therefore the profile of the grim witch is harder to notice, but imagine her upside down and it will be immediately evident with her aquiline nose and prominent chin.
But this area, despite being close to the galactic equator, is also famous for the abundance of background galaxies some of which would deserve a dedicated image.
I have selected some of them from the hundreds present in the image.
I invite you to scan the full resolution version of the image to fully enjoy this natural spectacle.
